Upcoming Events Along BC’s Coastal Waters!

Sport fishing boats head out at dawn for a day on the water, heading out of Hardy Bay.

As communities open up and restrictions relax, events surrounding BC coastal communities are being planned!

Also be sure to visit local farmer’s markets on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, where you’ll find locally grown produce, fresh-baked goods and hand-crafted items.

Here are just a few upcoming events to consider planning a trip around:

August 2021

August 5 & 19 – Summer Pop-Up Concert Series, Gabriola Island: Expect the unexpected with the return of the Vancouver Island Symphony’s popular event featuring works from all genres of music. Hosted outdoors at Page’s Resort and Marina.

August 28-29 – Kayak Fishing Derby at Moutcha Bay

Saturdays in August – Nanaimo Downtown Farmer’s Market, with vendors ranging from farmers and bakers to crafters and anything locally grown, made or baked and in between. Held every Saturday from 10am – 2pm until September 21st at Pioneer Waterfront Plaza.

Sundays in August – Sunday Blues Jam at The Queen’s, Nanaimo. Jackie Moisan and Frank Alexander’s Blues Jam, co-hosted by the Nanaimo Blues Society (NBS), is back in action every Sunday at The Queen’s.

Various Dates – Music in the Park, Nanaimo: A summer mini-concert series held at various Nanaimo parks, designed to connect live audiences to some of Nanaimo’s talent, against beautiful backdrops.

Various Dates – Corner Concert Series, Nanaimo: Take in live music from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at Corner Diana Krall Plaza, Museum Way, and National Land Building steps.

Various Dates – Sounds of Summer in the OCQ (Old City Quarter), Nanaimo: Starting August 6th at Noon, enjoy the sounds of live music from local musicians Fridays through August at Wesley Square 335 Wesley Street. Seating is limited so bring a chair if you can!

Various Dates – Sunday Sunset Serenades with Jamie Bowers at the tip of Roberts Creek Pier, Gibsons. Sundays from 7 pm – 9 pm through August & September.

Various Dates – A Taste of Victoria Food Tours at Victoria Public Market at the Hudson – Canada’s #1 Food Tour.

Various Dates – Featured Exhibit: SS Valencia at the Maritime Museum of BC in Victoria. The shipwreck of the SS Valencia is well known as one of the worst maritime disasters in an area along Vancouver Island’s west side known as “The Graveyard of the Pacific”. Its tale lives on in Victoria through ghost stories and it has even captured the attention of an international audience.

September 2021

September 4 and 5 – 158th Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival at Victoria’s Topaz Park featuring Highland & Irish dance performances, pipebands and Celtic band, manor tours and heavy events competitions. Also mark your calendars for the 159th Festival returning May long weekend, 2022!

September 9 – 12 – Broken Group Islands Multi-Day SUP Camping (departing from Tofino).

September 10-12 – Esquimalt RibFest: A charity event of ribs, music, and craft beer. Free admission and free kid’s activities, and vendors by the Esquimalt Ribfest Society. Donations gratefully accepted to support the Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Foundation and Esquimalt Ribfest Society.

September 17-19 – Sooke Music Festival: A fun, family-friendly and free music festival offering face painting, bouncy castles and live music.

September 18 – Moon Festival: Lantern Celebration 2021, Saanich. A neighbourhood outdoor celebration of light and community, with entertainment, mooncakes and tea samples, beautiful lantern displays and an illuminated twilight community lantern procession.

September 18 – Nanaimo International Jazz Festival: Free outdoor concerts in Nanaimo’s easy-walk downtown & stunning waterfront.

September 23-26 – BC Boat Show, Port Sidney Marina: An opportunity for people to tour over 200  boats, explore the latest yachts and attend demonstrations from marine-related businesses.

Various Dates – Bears By Kayak! Tofino. Take a remote, explorer-style mothership kayak tour where you and your guide will set out from Tofino harbour. Once anchored your guide will get you and your boats on the water to embark on a kayaking adventure in Fortune channel.

Various Dates – Sounds of Summer in the OCQ (Old City Quarter), Nanaimo: Enjoy the sounds of live music from local musicians Fridays through September at the Heritage Mews (321 Wesley Street). Seating is limited so bring a chair if you can! There will be a 2-hour finale with The Palace Band performing on Friday, September 24th from 12 pm-2 pm!

October 2021

October 16 – Ironman/Ironmaiden Tournament at Quadra Island Golf Club
