Description

More than just a pretty face

There are lots of reasons to sail into Ladysmith. We were named one of the 10 prettiest towns in Canada by Harrowsmith Country Life Magazine. You may discover our history and personality at the floating maritime museum, via our artistic community and in our turn-of-the-century architecture and artifacts on the Heritage Walk.

Boating is part of our heritage. So it is not surprising that boaters tell us Ladysmith is the friendliest place on Earth to moor a boat. Where else will you find a floating Welcome Centre for captain and crew? The town centre is a short walk from the harbour. You will find waterfront dining, pubs and marina BBQs. Nearby Transfer Beach Park offers a sandy beach, kayak rentals, kayak lessons, picnic areas, children’s playground, a fantastic water park and more. Dog friendly hiking trails begin near the Park.

Ladysmith is tucked behind a peninsula and surrounding waters are shielded by the Gulf Islands. There are several day or couple-of-days routes from Ladysmith through the islands, into the big Island’s bays or up to Nanaimo for some city lights. The 49th parallel cuts us in half and our southern, enclosed waters reach comfortable swimming temperatures in the summertime. Our seascape is perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding.

So there you go. We’re pretty, friendly, charming, smart and lots of fun. Can you ask for more?
